General Summary: Acts as first responder to campus emergencies rendering emergency medical care, suppressing small fires, or interdicting criminal activity. Officers initiate emergency actions including evacuations, lock-downs and activation of campus emergency communications. Officers investigate incidents and write reports for dissemination to appropriate management. Must be able with reasonable training to operate emergency equipment, follow procedures and exercise good judgement for responding to emergency and other sensitive situations. Works assigned shifts for a 27/7/365 campus safety operation.

Job Description:
  • Responds to Campus Emergencies including fires, medical emergencies and criminal events
  • Investigates incidents and writes reports.
  • Offers and executes customer services including safety escorts, let-ins, lock/unlock buildings and automobile assistance.
  • Patrols Campus to observe and protect campus community members and property. Operates patrol vehicles and walks the campus.
  • Enforces parking regulations.
  • Performs Campus Safety Inspections.
  • Operates campus protective systems such as fire alarms, security systems, fire extinguishers and first aid equipment.
  • Works as a dispatcher in the Security Operations Center to take calls, monitor alarm systems, CCTV systems, access control systems, and radio communications systems. Conducts record keeping of events through software.
  • Must be able to operate campus emergency communications systems.
  • Engages in physical and classroom training for fire suppression, self-defense with OC spray, baton and taser, emergency driving skills and rescue of persons.
  • Works shifts and holidays on a rotation basis with other staff members. Must be flexible with work hours to cover a 24/7 schedule.


Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED. Some college or technical school, a plus.
  • One year of Security Officer or public safety experience, two year related experience, preferred.
  • Upon hire, shall successfully complete training as follows: Advanced first aid, CPR/AED, and Campus Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Must be successful in completing defensive tactics training including proper use of pepper spray, taser and hands on tactics. Must be sprayed, tasered and demonstrate survival skills under adverse conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs fire extinguisher and carry up four flights of stairs in 70 seconds.
  • Strong clerical writing ability and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, data base experience and IT, a plus.
  • Must be able to visually observe campus grounds and CCTV systems.
  • Must have good driving record and pass criminal background check.
  • Must be able to communicate quickly and effectively on phones, 2-way radios and in person.
  • Must be able to render auto assistance including jump starts and car unlocks.


Additional Information:

Position will remain open until filled. $500 bonus paid after 30 days of successful employment. Additional $1,000 bonus after 90 days and successful completion of officer training.

Salary: $23.27 per hour

This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan. Tuition discount program available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
